Transform Your Scarf Into A Cover-Up

Scarves have provided me with an easy way to vamp up and accessorize my maternity wardrobe. While shopping at one of my favorite boutiques in San Clemente, Lincoln Street Boutique (they always have an amazing selection of scarves), the always stylish shop owner showed me this neat way to transform my favorite scarves into a vest or cover-up! Follow these instructions for a quick way to cover-up your favorite swimsuit or add some flair to an everyday look:

Step 1: Using a LARGE scarf, fold in half lengthwise and loosely tie the ends of one corner to form two “bunny ears”.

Step 2: Fold again and pinch a small section of fabric on top of the “bunny ears” to form a third “ear”.

Step 3: You should now have three “bunny ears”, tie the two previous ears tightly over the third to secure – that’s it!

DIY Flower Lei

We were in Hawaii for Valentine’s Day this year and decided to make some leis at home rather than going out to buy something pre-arranged. I made a trip to Wal-Mart and purchased a couple of lei needles and thread – all you need to make your very own lei! I think you could easily use a long needle found at any craft store, since it might be difficult to find a lei needle on the mainland.  We collected some plumeria flowers from a tree growing in the yard for our lei’s, but you can use whatever is available at your local farmer’s market.

The Big Island

It had been about a year and a half since our last trip to Hawaii – Tim and I used to go about three times a year before we started a family, and it’s a bit more costly these days. But we finally made it back for a ten day babymoon with our kids! My parents own a a beautiful home in Kailua-Kona, with breathtaking views of the ocean and coastline, and we were happy to take advantage of staying there during our trip. We spent every day at the beach; the kids loved splashing around in the warm water and spotting whales off of the coast. My parents’ back-yard pool provided entertainment in the afternoons while Tim and I cooked meals from produce and fish purchased at the local farmer’s market. Tim also surprised us with a stay at The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, which is the resort where we were married! We had a beautiful ocean-front room with a large lanai, making it difficult to leave the room, and the kids loved all of the daily activities offered at the resort. I am so happy that we were able to take this trip with the kids before baby “Sparkle” arrives. It was a wonderful way to spend time with them without the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I did my best to document our trip each day, and luckily instagram made it rather easy to share photos!

Cut Fitness

Recently, a good friend of mine started teaching at a new gym in Rancho Santa Margarita, Cut Fitness. Cut Fitness is an elite group fitness studio and is owned by Tamra Barney and Eddie Judge of Bravo’s famed reality show “The Real Housewives of Orange County”! Being the gym rat that I am, and the fact that I love trying out the latest and greatest in fitness trends, I decided to test out a couple of classes at Cut Fitness.

Cut Fitness is Southern California’s largest group fitness training center, and has just over 6,200 sq. feet of studio space. They offer many different Les Mills classes throughout the day including: Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Flow, and CX Worx. Other classes such as Spin, Kick Boxing, and Zumba are also available to members and guests. The biggest selling point for me had to be the kids studio – it’s placed in between the two group exercise rooms with large windows so that they can see their parents working out. The kids studio also features equipment proportionately sized for little ones, so that they can engage in exercise just like Mom & Dad! I love that Cut Fitness encourages a healthy lifestyle in young children, and I know that my kids would have a blast working out just like Mimi.

When choosing a gym for myself, the most important factors are scheduled classes and child care. I wouldn’t even consider a gym if it didn’t offer both. Cut Fitness offers amazing classes and a beautiful kid’s studio, so I will definitely be coming back for more!
